We Visited Two Iconic South Dakota Monuments (Here's What We Found)

The Mount Rushmore Walking Tour and the Crazy Horse Memorial Bus Tour in the Black Hills of South Dakota are must see sites for every visitor to the area. Mount Rushmore is well known to most everyone but Crazy Horse not so much. At Mount Rushmore you'll be well served to stop by the information center at the beginning and get the tour wand. $6.00 gets you access to a lot of additional information about the memorial you won't otherwise get along the trails and pathways. Crazy Horse Monument is a fantastic work all to itself. Not far from Mount Rushmore, and MUCH larger, the natives have spent years working on a memorial to Crazy Horse. This is still very much an active project and won't be completed for many more years but it's not one to miss. The North American Indian Museum is on the grounds along with several hands-on and interactive exhibits. The kids had a blast here for sure. If you're camping neither of these are far from Custer State Park. We stayed in Custer for a week and loved the area.
