The story of betrayal is as old as humanity. As old as Cain and Abel. The actual etymology of Betrayal means to be a traitor, to deliver one to evil. Surely, Betrayal is a wound that cuts deep. It is the sting of abandonment, the ache of trust broken, the silence where presence once stood. It is most certainly a classroom. And it is not a classroom that many of us skip… We will all at one point or another, find ourselves having been betrayed. By a friend, a family member, an organization, or even by ourselves. And we may even find ourselves betraying another. The classroom of betrayal is not for the meek, and it is not to be rushed past. It calls us to stillness and breath as it does its holy work, and slowly we might see that in the economy of grace, it can also become a sacred turning point, the place of new beginnings and angelic alchemy that transforms heartbreak into a homecoming, a threshold of rebirth. And so as ancient is the story of Betrayal, to is the story of redemption that follows.
