The Trevorrow decision refers to a 2007 South Australian case significant for the preliminary steps that it took in recognising the serious harm caused by the Australian government’s ‘Aboriginal Child Removal’ policies. In a landmark judgement, then-Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia, the Hon Tom Gray KC, ruled that Njarrindjeri man Bruce Trevorrow was treated unlawfully and falsely imprisoned when he was removed from his mother's care and handed over to a white family in 1957, aged 13 months. Presented for Juris Doctor students as part of Equity and Trusts (LAWS6205) convened by Professor Pauline Ridge, this masterclass with the Hon Tom Gray explores the capacity of the law to deliver justice for First Nations Australians.
