Central Piedmont Community College is one of the largest community colleges in North Carolina with an enrollment of more than 56,000 students and has 6 campuses. The Video shows the Central Campus which is in Uptown Charlotte. Central Piedmont was founded in 1963 which was the same year the North Carolina Assembly passed the state community college bill. Central Piedmont was formed from the merger of Mecklenburg College and the Central Industrial Education Center. The history of the land that Central Piedmont sits on today goes even farther back. From 1923 to 1959 - Central High School was located on the land that the college sits on today. But in 1959, the students of then Central High , moved to the new high school - Garinger High School. With the Central High School building vacant , Central Industrial Education Center shared the old high school building. Then in 1963, the merger between Central Industrial Education Center and Mecklenburg College formed Central Piedmont Community College. As mentioned above , the school has over 56,000 students and offers nearly 300 degrees, diploma, and certificate programs. When you hit the sky - you get to see the beautiful and impressive Charlotte Skyline sitting right over the college.
