In this project, I turn an offcut of Cocobolo into a stunning Tornado Bowl using the ring-segment method — the same approach featured in my Bocote Tornado Bowl video. Known for its bold grain and rich color, Cocobolo is also a dense and oily hardwood that brings unique challenges to gluing, turning, and finishing. In this video, you’ll see: ✅ How I prepare oily woods for glue-up ✅ Marking, cutting, and aligning segmented rings ✅ Turning and shaping Cocobolo on the lathe ✅ Smoothing with Yorkshire Grit and applying friction polish Working with Cocobolo isn't easy — its natural oils can interfere with adhesion and finishing. I’ll show you how I prepared the surfaces using denatured alcohol and selected the right glue for a strong bond. You’ll also see how I applied a friction polish (Shine Juice) — a blend of shellac, boiled linseed oil, and denatured alcohol — to enhance the natural beauty of the wood and give it a deep, glossy finish. If you enjoy watching beautiful hardwoods come to life on the lathe, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and tap the bell — more exciting builds are on the way. 📺 Watch next: • Turning Scrap Bocote into a Stunning Torna...
