This is what we do in France: find an old unlocked church, and look around for a harmonium. Sometimes it's tucked away in a dark corner, like this one, under a blanket, with other things on top. I suspect this is a Debain harmonium, built in Paris c. 1860. It has four and a half ranks of reeds in an oak case, with a transposing ivory keyboard. Forgive the blurry photos, it was quite dark! I tried pumping it with one foot (one treadle was detached), and it played decently although in pretty rough shape. This is what I do just about every time I find a reed organ: play a few chords, try some of the stops, and play the hymn-tune "Hyfrydol" as well as I remember it. Sadly, when I really sat down to play something, the strap for the second treadle broke. This is in the beautiful church of St. Julien in the small town of Azille, in south-central France. Recorded 17 October 2016.
