A workout at the gym can involve a number of different things. For personal trainer Dan Larson at Life Time Fitness in Plymouth, his tool of choice for a workout workshop Tuesday morning was the ViPR bar. "It's [stands for] vitality performance reconditioning. It basically speaks to its multiuse capability," Larson said. The ViPR bar is probably not the first thing the average person looks for when they first walk into a gym. "It's essentially a giant rubber tube with some handles on it," Larson said. But fear of the unknown shouldn't prevent people from avoiding it entirely. After all, with the variety of equipment at the local gym, nobody walks in as an expert. "And that's why we want to provide as much education to the members as we can, is to avoid somebody coming in, doing something incorrectly, injuring themselves and then having potentially a major setback in their fitness goals," Larson said. Larson says any fitness goal should involve resistance training, which is why he says the ViPR bar is a good tool because it provides a break from the normal routine. Tuesday morning in Plymouth, Larson ran through a series of ViPR exercises to showcase its functionality, which include burpees with pushups, high-plank shuffles and cardio exercises such as the side shuffle. "If they come in and do the same thing day in and day out, they might get bored with their routine and fall off the bandwagon, as we would say," Larson said. Life Time Fitness will host ViPR bar workshops all across the Twin Cities this Saturday at 10 a.m. For more information on ViPR workouts you can do on your own, click here.
