Built in 1117 CE by King Vishnuvardhana of the Hoysala dynasty to commemorate his victory over the Chola Empire at Talakad. Dedicated to Lord Chennakeshava, a form of Lord Vishnu, the name means "Handsome Kesava." Constructed using soapstone, which allows intricate carvings. Showcases Hoysala architecture, characterized by detailed sculptures, intricate carvings, and star-shaped platforms. Temple is supported by 46 pillars, each uniquely carved with incredible precision. Darpana Sundari (Lady with Mirror) is one of the temple's most famous and stunning carvings. Hoysala emblem, depicting a warrior slaying a tiger, is prominently featured.
