The moment I left my country, something shifted. On the flight into Ecuador, I ended up having a full hour long conversation in spanish with a kind Ecuadorian man who showed me what hospitality really means. When I told him I was traveling to Ecuador to deepen my Spanish and connect with the culture, he did something unexpected he offered for me to stay in his home for two days. I wasn’t prepared yet for spontaneous travel logistics I still had a connecting flight to Cuenca and it was my first time in the country already having somewhat of an itinerary so I couldn’t take him up on the invite. But the moment stayed with me. This was the first time I truly felt like I wasn’t just studying another language — I was stepping into a culture, connecting with people, and learning how much kindness exists in the world when you open yourself to it. This video captures that realization — the in-between moment where travel stops being about destinations and starts becoming about human connection.
