Featuring Dr. Amon Millner, Computing Innovation Fellow Dr. Millner says: In this talk, I will discuss novel ways in which I have provided entry-points for diverse learners to engage in practices associated with different disciplines. I will present the merits of increasing people's abilities to express themselves and exchange ideas using engineering processes from different fields and rethinking relationships between people and their surroundings. I will present examples of tools I have developed and activities I have designed in this spirit and explain how the "low floors, no doors" approach has helped young people show signs of becoming all-around engineers. Bio: Dr. Amon Millner is a Computing Innovation Fellow at Olin College. He completed his Ph.D. at MIT's Media Lab. He helped design the award-winning NSF-supported Scratch programming language, leading the efforts to incorporate sensors and software. He has designed, deployed, and evaluated computational construction kits, honing expertise in developing technological tools and crafting engaging activities that enable young people from diverse backgrounds to create novel tangible user interfaces. His degrees include an M.S. from Georgia Tech in Human Computer Interactions and a B.S from USC in Computer Science. He has received fellowships from Intel, the Computing Research Association, and MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms.
