Bodycam video from Akron police depicts chaotic scenes after June mass shooting

The Akron Police Department on Saturday released several hours of footage depicting the chaotic scenes as officers and other emergency personnel responded to the drive-by mass shooting that left one dead and more than 20 others injured on June 2. The dozens of hours of bodycam and dashcam footage depict officers and first responders working to control and stabilize the scene where the shots rang out as well as at area hospitals as bystanders and family members of injured victims congregated around the areas in search of their loved ones and more information. 3News is poring through the vast amounts of footage and will continue to bring updates as the story develops. In some cases, interactions between officers and civilians became tense as bystanders became increasingly desperate to be let through the active crime scene so they could know where their loved ones were and whether they had safely escaped the gunfire. The mass shooting happened during a block party in the area of Kelly Ave. and 8th Ave on June 2. The city announced in July that the number of victims from the shooting stood at 29, including the fatal victim, 27-year-old Lateris Cook of Akron. Following interviews with numerous people, reviewing tips and analyzing evidence, Akron police released photos of a suspect vehicle connected with the shooting on June 18. No arrests have been made in connection to the mass shooting despite Akron Police Chief Brian Harding noting last month that his detectives had spent 2,500 hours investigating the case, conducting "an excess of 100 interviews."
