In continental knitting, the yarn is held in the left hand as opposed to the English style, where yarn is held in the right hand. For those who are moving from crochet to knitting, this method may be easier to learn and feel more natural. This wee video shows how to execute a continental style knit stitch through the back loop (k1 tbl), which twists the stitch! The video assumes that the stitches mounted on your needle will have the right leg in front and the left leg in back. Whether yarn is held in your left hand or your right hand, the basic k1 tbl stitch will look the same when completed. Note: continental knitting is sometimes called "picking" and English style knitting is sometimes called "throwing."
