How do you handle a cubic numerator in a rational function? We start by using synthetic division to divide f(x) = (x^3 - x^2 + x - 11) by (x + 2). By using the root -2, we find our remainder (-25) and our quadratic quotient coefficients: 1, -3, and 7. This gives us a quotient of x^2 - 3x + 7.
