In October 1915, my great-grandfather Jules André Destrigneville arrived in the trenches of Champagne with the French 315e Régiment d’Infanterie. Using his daily letters, original photographs from his regiment, this short documentary follows his first days at the front: life in the trenches, the view over No Man’s Land, artillery bombardments, gas attacks, food, exhaustion, and the rare moments of downtime. This is the story of one man, seen through his own words, during his very first days under fire in October 1915. 📍 Sector: Auberive, Champagne 🪖 Regiment: 315e RI (7e Division) 📅 Date: October 1915 If you’re interested in First World War history, trench life, Verdun, Champagne, and the daily reality of the Poilus, you may find this story meaningful. 00:00 First Days in the Trenches 00:36 Life in the Trenches 00:55 View from the Trenches 01:07 Artillery 01:24 Food in the Trenches 01:44 Gas Attacks 01:56 Downtime: Letters & Trench Art
