Grow Sisters, Know Your Farmer Series 2019, Hemp Dreams Our first farmers, for the Grow Sisters, Know Your Farmer Series give us a glimpse into the booming hemp industry. Hemp Farming was legalized across the United States by the Farm Bill in 2018. However, hemp farming has been legal in Oregon since 2015. With a head start in the cannabis and hemp game Oregon has represented the two crops as just that, agricultural crops. Our first farmer, Steven Mialocq, owner of Hemp Dreams, is located in Phoenix Oregon. Upon our visit To the Hemp Dreams Farm, Mialocq demonstrates how he removes his hemp seeds from the plant with a zig zag machine*. Their products being hemp are for the open market. Hemp Dreams also grows flower for biomass and flower for smoking. Seeds for hemp production and seed starts and small amounts of clones for their local farmer community. “We’ve built this thing from the ground up, on our own, without a bunch of big money backing. Me and Alyssa and my few employees poured our hearts into making this thing work. And we do the work all day, everyday to be successful.” Mialocq says as he removes a bucket of biomass filled with hemp seeds and gentility feeds it into his home made zig zag machine. Mialocq continued “Clearly small farmers put more love in what they produce as compared to large scale corporate farms.” he shrugged his shoulders and pointed out that he looked up on Youtube how to build the zig zag machine.
