This talk explores why conversation in today’s UAE is less about what you know and more about how you ask. As the country has evolved socially, economically, and globally, the way Emiratis engage with others has evolved as well. Many newcomers misunderstand that asking questions is intrusive. However when it is done the right it is often welcomed and seen as genuine interest. What is often overlooked here is the importance of the warm-up or (Small talk) it still matters. It creates comfort, signals respect, and sets the tone before moving into deeper topics. Timing, tone, humility, and intention are part of an unspoken conversational etiquette that shapes how messages are received. In this session, participants learn how to move beyond scripted old fashion Gulf small talk into the new generation meaningful exchanges that build trust and rapport with Emirati nationals without rushing or overstepping. The talk also addresses common fears expatriates carry, such as saying the wrong thing or crossing invisible boundaries. Ultimately, this talk offers practical tools and simple mindset shifts to rediscover the UAE or to any one who wants to engage authentically, ask better questions, and understand the culture not from the outside but deep in to the rooted culture.
