The idea sounded fun at first - no bugs, no mud on shoes, no sun in the eyes - but AumSum knew better than to stop at the surface. As the clouds rumbled outside, his imagination took over. He pictured a world where no one went outdoors anymore. It started slowly. People built super comfy houses with everything they could ever need inside - food printers instead of fridges, robots that cleaned, played, and even brought things from room to room. Schools were all online, sports were video games, and meetings happened only on screens. There was no need to go anywhere. Everything came to you. At first, it seemed great. AumSum imagined kids playing virtual soccer with goggles on, scoring goals from their couches. Adults worked from their living rooms in pajamas. Food was delivered through tubes or drones. Even pets were robotic, with fluffy fur and programmed cuddles. No one ever got sunburned, no one got wet in the rain, and shoes became a thing of the past. But then, the world started to change in ways no one expected. The parks were the first to feel it. With no visitors, grass stopped getting trimmed, and flowers drooped from lack of care. Trees dropped their leaves, and no one came to rake them. Without footsteps, laughter, or bike tires rolling by, the parks grew silent and wild. Birds flew elsewhere. The sun still rose, but hardly anyone saw it. The sky painted beautiful sunsets each evening, but no one looked up to see. Then came the health problems. Without sunlight, people began to miss out on vitamin D, something AumSum remembered helped bones stay strong. Without running, jumping, or even walking much, bodies grew weaker. Muscles got smaller, and energy levels dropped. People slept more but felt less rested. Everyone had more time but felt more tired. He imagined doctors telling everyone to take pills for energy, wear light-therapy helmets, or do jumping jacks in front of their screens. But it wasn’t the same. Something was missing.
