As a YouTuber, I watch other's videos as well as producing my own. One of the channels I enjoy is beelikestowatch. In a recent video, Brian (or, Bee, if you prefer) posed a challenge to put 10 shots within a 6" diameter target from 21', as inspired by the NRA pistol marksmanship qualification challenges. While I was thinking about this, I was also arranging to shoot with another viewer, my friend Matt. We agreed to have a friendly competition, and decided to take a similar premise to Bee's challenge when we shot against each other. For our "shoot off," we each chose a semiauto handgun chambered for 9mm Luger. I posed my skill on my trusty Beretta M9 against that of Matt's with his Springfield XD(M). We structured the challenge in three parts. The first round, we both took five shots at a target of 6" diameter from a distance of about 20'. We upped the ante for the second round by reducing the size of the target to a 4" diameter while shooting from the same distance. For the last round, we turned up the pressure a bit more with a 2.5" diameter target (still shooting from 20'). While I was compiling the footage for this video, I got the idea to present Matt and my friendly competition in the style of the video game, Mortal Kombat. My family is unique in that we shoot together, but another of our family pastimes is to play video games together. As a kid, I can remember playing (and watching) many rounds of Mortal Kombat with my siblings and my dad. Back then, we played an old version on the 1st generation PlayStation, but recently, we picked up the revamped version released for the Xbox 360. The nostalgia of the family time was rekindled once we started playing as our favorite characters, battling each other as we did when the game first caught our attention. We're just that kind of nerdy. The more I got into working the Mortal Kombat theme into my video, the more fun I had producing it. For me, the fun of video production is what keeps me making videos. And this video, in particular, was wonderful fun to put together. I especially enjoyed working on the music for this production. I listened to a number of different variations of the Mortal Kombat theme song as research for composing my own interpretation. I worked in collaboration with my dad to come up with the resulting music (all the best bits are his). Overall, I had a great time shooting with Matt, but even more fun working on this video, and I even got my dad in on it. I hope you enjoy it, too :] ---------------- I personally created the background music included in this video using FL Studios 10, by utilizing the step sequencer and not pre-mixed loops of music. Also, I personally created all of the graphics using my own photography and a licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop. Because this is an originally arranged piece created on FL Studios Version 10, without any loops or sampled music, but by utilizing the step sequencer, I own the worldwide distribution rights to this video and it's contents.
