CINCINNATI (WKRC) - It's well-known that a diet higher in plant foods, good fats and seafood tends to be healthiest for the heart. A new diet study, presented at the Heart Failure Society of America's annual meeting, found it's not just what people eat that may influence heart function but it may also be when you eat and the impact of inflammation from foods that play a role in heart function. This study found microbes, which are found in the gut, for example, may work as what researchers call inflammatory modulators in heart failure. The specialists who treat heart failure at Christ Hospital put a new device in Charles G. Jones' heart called the AccuCinch. It may help treat what's already causing his heart failure by sort of acting as a support around the heart. "In his case, his heart failure was due to the heart muscle being weak, his ejection fraction, the amount of blood that his heart bloods with each beat is lower than the normal person," said Dr. Satya Shreen. "The heart is not pumping as effectively as much, it's not getting blood to the rest of the body, and that's where the symptoms come from." Now since the goal is to treat but also prevent, the team at Christ is getting ready to present this kind of information at the next Heart to Heart seminar. You are invited to attend on November 21st at the Drees Pavilion in Devou Park. It's kind of a healthy happy hour with a complete panel of experts on diet, therapy, afib, heart surgery, and heart failure just to name a few. You can register by calling 513-841-4671.
