On July 26, the race left Gansu province and entered Ningxia for a 111 km circuit of Zhongwei city. As in previous stages, high temperatures continued to present the biggest challenge. Zhongwei is located in the central-western part of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. While surround areas are arid, age-old Yellow River irrigation systems keep this region well-watered, earning it the name "land of fish and rice." Zhongwei is famous for its wolfberries, rich traditions, and cultural relics. As a border stronghold on the Silk Road, Zhongwei is home to many historical sites and has drawn together diverse cultural influences over its long history.
