Russia's S-400 air defense system, which Moscow calls "the best in the world," was unable to cope with the ATACMS missile strikes on the Kursk-Vostochny airfield. In the published footage, the S-400 helplessly fires missiles into the sky, which miss and fly wide of their target. Ukrainian GEOINT analysts of the Cyberboroshno project have published video materials confirming the strike on the Kursk-Vostochny airfield and the S-400 air defense system. The video shows that, in addition to the airfield itself, strikes were also carried out on the S-400 position, which was trying to intercept the ATACMS ballistic missiles. The system managed to launch at least two missiles , but they were unable to prevent the attack. As a result, the S-400 position was hit by two missiles with a cluster warhead. Analysts determined the geolocation of the strike on the air defense system. According to Cyberboroshno, at least five ATACMS M39 cluster munition missiles were launched at the airfield and its surroundings during the attack. The attack on Kursk-Vostochny and the S-400 position demonstrates the vulnerability of Russian air defense systems to modern Western ballistic missiles. This highlights the growing effectiveness of long-range weapons supplied to Ukraine by its allies and indicates a continuing escalation in the conflict. This is already the fourth case of the use of long-range Western missiles on Russian territory and the third using ATACMS missiles.
