In this Bible study, we open Jonah chapter 1 and discover something uncomfortable: a real prophet of God tries to run—fast and far—from God’s command. We trace the “downhill steps” of spiritual drift, how disobedience usually looks ordinary at first, and why running from God never ends where you think it will. Then the storm hits… and the most surprising thing happens: hardened sailors—pagans with “their own gods”—end up crying out to the LORD Himself. Why? Because Jonah’s rebellion spills over into everyone around him, and God makes it impossible to ignore who He is. We also explore how to study the Bible for yourself (inductive study) instead of leaning too heavily on study notes, and we end with a powerful question from the text: when the sailors “feared the LORD,” offered sacrifice, and made vows… was that true saving faith, or something else?
