He convinces Xerxes to issue a decree allowing the massacre of the entire Jewish population. Mordecai urges Esther to reveal her true identity to the king and plead for mercy for her people. Esther risks her life to approach Xerxes and successfully persuades him to cancel the decree. In a stunning reversal of fortune, Haman is executed and the Jews are spared.
