Our first look at Jujitsu, pressure points, and the Yawara pressure point fighting stick and how Bartitsu combined them into victorian self-defense. More importantly we will be finding out if pressure point striking realy works in an effective, fun but painfull lesson. It's time again for us to travel back in time 126 years, taking a further step along our fighting fitness journey of discovery into the world of Edward William Barton-Wrights Bartitsu, a new art of self-defense 1898-1902. The first true mixed martial art of the modern age. So strap yourself in tight as this one is a wild and riotous ride through a unique blend of Japanese martial arts training and late victorian self-defence techniques. In this our latest Bartitsu training video, we take our first look at traditional Jujitsu, its principle pressure points of the human body, and how to attack them with the traditional Jujitsu short fighting stick, the Yawara. Jujitsu is a Japanese martial art that uses pressure point strikes, joint locks, and breaks and also throws, chokes and ground fighting and dates back to the medieval era of Japan and was the unarmed combat fighting system used by the Samurai. Edward William Barton-Wright was one first Westerners to study this martial art, 1895-1898. Brought it back with him on his return to late Victorian Great Britain and Jujitsu and judo, which came from Jujitsu in 1880 was the lynch pin of what all the other Martial art, fighting styles and self-defense systems of bartitsu where formed around. As this is our first look into the fascinating and deadly art of Jujitsu, in this video, we will just be contenting ourselves with getting to grips with firstly a basic understanding of how to use the Yawara stick, applying it to the various vital pressure points of the body first from a standing relaxed position to find out not only how effective this is as a self defence training technique but also to find not onlyvwhich of these pressure points work easiest with the Yawara striking stick but also to find out how much or how little force is required in attacking these to inflict pain and injury to one's opponant. Secondly, we will then combine what we have learned about striking the vital pressure points of the human body with the Yawara fighting stick. With bareknuckle boxing, we have also learned as part of our victorian self-defense training and see how groundbreaking Edward William Barton-Wright was in combining the pressure point fighting stick techniques of jujitsu with the boxing punches and boxing skills blending these two together into a simple but hugely effective hand to hand fighting system unlike anything else of its time. Though learning and becoming proficient at bartitsu as a self-defense training system is important. Becoming adept at self-defence is not the primary aim of our fighting fitness and martial training journey. It islso part of a wider and unconventional functional strength and fitness lifestyle looking at historical forms of strength and fitness training and using late vitorian and edwardian fighting styles and martial art training as a vehicle for a fun and interesting way to keep physicaly fit. The bringing together of bareknuckle boxing and Jujitsu pressure point striking and as we call it Box-Jitsu is another example of a very effective form of function fitness training that is fun to do, doesn't require a gym or any expensive exercise equipment and so makes for a great home workout.
