Homepage of BasscoverPete https://basscoverpete.com/ At the end of the year I’m getting a little nostalgic and this song just brings back good memories and beautiful moments. It isn’t a difficult basspart, but I like to think that no basspart is easy! Giving the notes the right length and playing some notes with a short (staccato) feel: that’s what’s happening in this beautiful song. And of course the melodic choices made in the chords where the bass often plays a different note other than the root note is very tasteful and is very important for the harmony of the song. Please mind the short/staccato feel (notes with a dot in the transcription) in this song. For instance in bar 1 on the second half of the second beat and on the second half of the fourth beat. This is repeated a lot of the times. Also the lick in bar 4 is played with short notes. And please mind the rests in this bass part. There’s a rest after the first note in bar 1 and a rest after the third note. This is repeated in this song in similar way. I think that this rest really makes the bass part breathe. And please listen to the rests in bar 8. The notes after the first beat (being G, A and B) are not played short/staccato but it’s really an eight note followed by an eight rest. So, you might say: this is a very easy bass part: but to really let the notes breath and playing the staccato/short notes where needed, really gives the bass line it’s harmony and feel. This song can be played just in one (!) position. Being the 7th position Enjoy!
