Allegro moderato - 24:44 Performers: Igor Ardašev, piano; Renata Ardaševová, piano; Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice; Conductor: Miloš Formaček Jan Ladislav Dussek (baptized Jan Václav Dusík, with surname also written as Duschek or Düssek, (February 12, 1760 – March 20, 1812) was a Czech composer and pianist. “He represents both through his life and musical legacy a phenomenon of romantic artist, as if he had to be born ahead of time for several tens of years. He was the most renowned Czech piano virtuoso of the 18-century. After his studies, he has abandoned an original idea of his as to joint the monastery. He left for Belgium and Holland, where he was active as both organist and music-master. He performed as a pianist in a number of German cities and has even succeeded to reach Russia, and glare Catherine II with his play. Further adventures waited on Dusik in Paris, where also Marie Antoinette was participating in his concert (1786). Went on the revolution events to adjourn his stay in Paris. He left Versailles for London, where, together with his father, he has established a publishing house, being simultaneously active as teacher and composer. Ten years later, their firm saw a comedown. Afterwards, he went into services of Louis Ferdinand, the Prussian prince. Soon after the latter's demise, Dusik was acting in the princedom of Talleyrand, Paris, where he lived till the end of his romantic life. Dusik's musical destiny was always connected with the piano: he improved mechanisms of the instruments, and he was the first pianist, who has positioned his instrument laterally towards the audience (by that time, the pianists used to play being turned back to the audience). The style of his writings is the most important thing. He observed the tradition of classical composition practice, though achieving frequently romantic parameters in the content of his writings. It was specifically in the Concerto for two pianos op. 63 from the year 1805 - 1806, when Dusik has used the „rejdovak", a Czech country-dance. Here we discern typically Czech risings of sound of the polka dance as well. As a pianist, Dusik belonged to an absolute culmination of the virtuosos at that time, whose technical brillance was amplified with a tuneful recital and concentration on a pliable sound of the instrument.” (from Album Notes)
