Content Warning: This episode includes discussion of suicide, systemic harm, racism and mental health struggles, particularly relating to neurodivergent young people. Please take care while listening and step away if needed. In this deeply needed conversation, Jodie Mainstone, Psychotherapist, Trainer, Consultant Supervisor, ADHDer and Mum to three Audhd (Autistic and ADHD) children, speaks with a neurodivergent mum of three neurodivergent mixed race children who also has 25 years of experience working in education. She began her career as a teaching assistant and went on to become Assistant Head of SEMH services, so she has seen the system from every angle, both professionally and personally. We talk openly about what it is like to be neurodivergent, to raise neurodivergent children, and to navigate education and mental health systems as a mixed-race family. She shares why she eventually left education and also speaks about her own family’s experience when the system failed her son, with serious mental health consequences and real risk to life. This is not about blaming individuals. It is a conversation about broken systems, survival, advocacy, and the cost families pay when support fails. If you are a parent, educator, therapist, or a neurodivergent adult, and this sounds familiar, you are not alone. #mentalhealth #mixedrace #autism #adhd
