Chris "88" Miles installs DeLorean Parts Northwest's "Wings-B-Cool" upgrade -- a Cooling System Self-Bleeder Kit -- in Dustin Hennick's 1981 DeLorean with automatic transmission and cruise control. Follow along and see how simple the process is -- so simple you can do it on your own! What do we think of the kit? The ease of installation is a big plus but the benefits of having this installed on a DeLorean are what won us over. Once installed bleeding air from the cooling system is a much easier process and is more effective with Wings-B-Cool. What does that mean? A decreased possibility of the car overheating due to trapped air in the system. A pocket of air in the DeLorean's cooling system will prevent the coolant from circulating properly and will overheat the car, causing damage to the engine or even worse. The ability to bleed manually at the radiator side of the system is a huge bonus. The current version of this system also includes a nifty shut-off valve that will effectively deactivate the system. Deactivating the system would be required to perform engine diagnostics, but why would you want to leave it deactivated under normal driving conditions? Because other engine-related issues which introduce air into the cooling system could go undetected. Obviously a proper purging of air from the cooling system during routine maintenance is the primary purpose of Wings-B-Cool. But if something else were to malfunction and cause air to enter the system, keeping the system activated full-time could prevent detection and diagnosis of the problem -- until that problem grows into something much more serious. This is why Wings-B-Cool includes the shut-off valve. So should you leave the system activated full-time or deactivated? DPNW recommends that the individual owner of the DeLorean incorporating this system consult with their service technician regarding this decision. We happen to agree -- because it all depends on the operational status of your engine and cooling system! For example, a perfectly running DeLorean with no engine or cooling system issues can easily leave the system deactivated with no issue. A car which does exhibit overheating problems could use this system to mitigate that during driving conditions -- but we strongly recommend to resolve those issues and not use the system as a band-aid! Part #: K1012DP-A Price: $69.95 From DPNW's Website: This upgrade, in its original form, is designed to eliminate trapped air from the upper areas of the engine. Most self-bleeder kits do a great job of performing this function, but this isn't the only place that air can become trapped in the DeLorean cooling system. During routine maintenance of the cooling system, or as a result of unexpected coolant loss due to a leak, air can also be introduced into the radiator or the heater core portions of the system. This trapped air may not be eliminated by the typical self-bleeder kits, and must be removed as a separate step. The normal technique for releasing this trapped air is to remove the small air bleed hose from a hose barb on the radiator. When the hose is disconnected, any air in the radiator will escape, until coolant flows from the connection, usually all over you! And if your car has an original radiator, great care must be taken to avoid damaging the plastic hose barb. DPNW has gone one step further with its self-bleeder kit by adding an exclusive in-line system for eliminating trapped air in the radiator quickly and easily. Includes K1017DP (the DPNW Wings-B-Cool™ Radiator Bleeder Kit), hoses, fittings, clamps and detailed installation instructions and diagrams. NOTE: The original version of this system was so efficient at actively eliminating trapped air in the DeLorean cooling system; the symptoms associated with a number of engine-related issues were effectively masked during normal operations. This caused additional effort for diagnostic purposes, and often resulted in removal of this system. The current revised system incorporates an exclusive inline shut-off valve that will allow the entire system to be deactivated during normal operation of the engine, and activated periodically for cooling system maintenance and repairs to facilitate elimination of trapped air. This feature will allow normal engine diagnostic procedures to be performed effectively without the necessity of complete self bleeder system removal. #delorean #backtothefuture #dmc12 #stainlesssteel #cars #autos #customdelorean #dmc #deloreanmotorcompany #deloreantech #deloreango #deloreanindustries #deloreanownersassociation #deloreaneurope #deloreanworld #deloreanmotorcars #prv #lotus #giugiaro #GiorgettoGiugiaro #sportscars #irishcar #exoticcar #deloreanpartsnorthwest #belfast #martymcfly #fluxcapacitor #docbrown #bttf #timemachine #timetravel
