Atiq Ahmed, the former gangster-turned-politician, and his brother Ashraf were produced before a Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Prayagraj regarding their alleged involvement in the Umesh Pal murder case. The court ordered a 7-day police remand for both accused, despite arguments made by Ahmed's lawyer against the police remand citing his client's health. The Uttar Pradesh Police claimed to have gathered enough evidence to prove Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf as the conspirators in the murder case of Umesh Pal. Heavy security measures were taken outside the court during the hearing, with police personnel deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order. Atiq Ahmed has a long history of criminal activities and has been named in several cases of murder, extortion, and other serious offences. However, he has also been elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly four times and served as a Member of Parliament. Ahmed's involvement in politics has been controversial, with allegations of criminal intimidation, violence, and corruption against him. He was expelled from the Samajwadi Party in 2017 for his alleged involvement in a case of violence in a Lucknow prison. The Umesh Pal murder case is the latest in a series of allegations against Atiq Ahmed and his brother. The police claim that the brothers were involved in the murder of Umesh Pal, a real estate businessman, in 2020. The police say that Pal was killed over a property dispute, and that Ahmed and his brother were the masterminds behind the murder. During the hearing in the CJM court, Ahmed's lawyer argued against the police remand, citing his client's health, and requested a maximum of three days of police custody. However, the court granted a 7-day remand to the Prayagraj police, who sought it to question the brothers. #atiqahmed #atiqahmednews #umeshpalmurdercase #umeshpal #umeshpalmurder #atiqahmednews #prayagraj #prayagrajnews Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: / timesofindia Instagram: / timesofindia Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: / timesofindiaplus Twitter: / toiplus Instagram: / toi_plus
