BOSNIA: CERSKA: EXHUMED BODIES MOVED FOR EXAMINATION

(20 Jul 1996) Natural Sound International war crimes investigators have been moving a number of bodies dug up from a mass grave in the region of Srebrenica to a factory in Tuzla, Bosnia. There the bodies, from Cerska, will be examined for the exact causes of death. Attempts will also be made to identify the victims and to notify their relatives. Bodies found in a mass grave near Srebrenica, being moved in these refrigerated trucks by officials investigating war crimes in Bosnia. All the remains had been exhumed from a site near Cerska over the past ten days. The convoy passed through the border separating the Bosnian Serbs' self-declared Republika Srpska with the Bosnian Federation. It's destination: a factory in Tuzla. Both IFOR and Federation police were on hand to ensure security. The bodies will now be examined to determine the exact causes of death and attempts will be made to identify the victims so that their relatives can be notified. Investigators from the International War Crimes Court for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) will continue to exhume more human remains from several mass grave sites over the next three months. Their work is part of the evidence being collected against indicted Bosnian leaders, Radovan Karadzic and General Ratko Mladic as well as other suspected war criminals.
