Donnie Ray Mayhew was a good friend of mine and everyone from Across The Miles and R&R Express. Donnie played mandolin in Across The Miles for many years. He was a Bluegrass musician based in the Summersville, WV area and in 2013 recorded his solo project "Long Overdue" with many of West Virginia's finest Bluegrass musicians on board! My cousin Morgan "Bimbo" Richardson sings lead and plays guitar on "Wait A Minute", sings baritone vocals on "Turn The Page", and sings low harmony vocals and plays guitar on "Who Will Watch The Homeplace?" on the "Long Overdue" project. My aunt Rose Richardson sings lead on "Who Will Watch The Homeplace?" on the "Long Overdue" project. Rose and Morgan (Bimbo) Richardson of course played in the Across The Miles Band. If you are involved in Bluegrass, chances are you've probably heard of Donnie, and you had a friend in him for life if you knew him. Sadly he was lost to illness during COVID. This is a great project with some standards along with original material!
