Deep in the Cambodian jungle, in a small wooden hut barely larger than a prison cell, one of history's most feared dictators was about to face his final reckoning. The man responsible for the deaths of nearly two million innocent people sat hunched over a small shortwave radio, listening intently to a broadcast that would seal his fate. April 15th, 1998. 8 PM. The Voice of America's Cambodian-language service crackled through the static-filled airways with news that would send shockwaves through the last remnants of the Khmer Rouge. What happened in the following two hours and fifteen minutes would mark the end of one of the 20th century's most brutal regimes.
