Once a major center of commerce and trade, it is now a popular tourist destination with a population of around 120,000 people. The city is also known for its chocolate, beer, and lace-making traditions. Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been nicknamed the "Venice of the North" for its numerous canals and bridges.
