Wolves play a vital role in ecosystems, helping to balance prey populations and strengthen biodiversity. They are also one of the most social animals, relying on their pack to hunt, raise pups and survive across seasons. Each animal has a defined role in a wolf pack, especially when they work together to hunt large game. Researchers have learned a tremendous amount about wolf behavior from being able to watch them in the open country of Yellowstone National Park, and our camera traps allow us insights into their lives in this densely forested valley.
