Appalachian Trail NOBO, Day 4, February 28, 2026: Neel Gap / Mountain Crossings to Low Gap

11.6 miles for the day Total ascent: 2819.2 feet Total descent: 2954.1 feet Total grade 9.4% 43 miles of AT completed 53 miles hiked After a night at the Mountain Crossings hostel, we had gear shakeouts at the outfitters and I did a small resupply. Free, Carl and I hiked on but they pulled away from me early so I hiked alone. Met day hikers along the way and stopped to chat; one of my favorite things to do. Beautiful day, upper 60s and sunny, so I wore my sun hoody for the first time. I met up with Free and Carl at Hogpen Gap where trail angels from The Ridge Community Church in Blue Ridge, GA treated us to delicious beef noodle soup and corn bread. So good. Reached Low Gap Shelter at 5 pm. Had dinner with new friends then to bed in the shelter.
