Room rate occupancy at the Terrace Bay resort along Namibia's northern coast has shown a marked increase during the just-concluded holiday season. Compared to the previous holiday season of December 2024 to January 2025, occupancy rates showed an eight percent increase from the 53 percent recorded during the previous holiday season. Terrace Bay, named after its terrace-like stony and rugged beaches, lies in the heart of the world-famous Skeleton Coast National Park. It is one of only two establishments managed by the Namibia Wildlife Resorts in the Skeleton Coast Park. The other being the Torra Bay camping site, south of Terrace Bay. Located in the harsh conditions of the Namib Desert, its appeal is unique and mystic, drawing visitors from far and wide. It currently has 20 chalets, and the resort offers bed, breakfast, and dinner options, served at its restaurant and bar facilities. The resort also offers semi-VIP and full VIP establishments, catering for larger groups with self-catering needs. Acting Manager Beata Onesmus said, "We had more clients in December 2025 compared to 2024. I think we also just moved up the game because we had a special running up to now from December. It is 1,100 per person, dinner and breakfast included. So a lot of people have come through for that one." The Terrace Bay resort is known as an angler's paradise, and the good catches landed so far bode well for the establishment. It is open throughout the year, and Onesmus is confident that occupancy rates could improve considerably. Domestic tourism lies close to the heart of Onesmus, and she encourages Namibians to travel more within the country and explore the unique beauty of Namibia. "I would like to encourage all Namibians to travel; let's travel and know our country. Let's go to places we have never been. We are actually more interested in traveling and going to places like Cape Town, but we can't travel around our country. Let's travel around our country." he added While accommodation may be deemed pricey, NWR often offers special discounted rates, and with Namibia's 36th independence celebrations around the corner, there are sure to be discounted rates. So if you would like to take the road less travelled, be sure that the friendly and always helpful staff of Terrace Bay Resort will make your stay worth the while.
