MAKATON STORY - FULL BOOK! Leo and the Lightning Dragons, signed in Makaton by the author Gill White

"This is the story of Leo, the bravest knight of all..." I wrote Leo and the Lightning Dragons for my son Leo, who suffers from Ohtahara Syndrome, an extremely rare form of epilepsy. An “awareness-raising tale of resilience” (The Herald, 20th April 2019), the book draws on our family’s experiences with various professionals involved in Leo’s care to create a kingdom of people all trying to help the brave knight Leo fight his dragons. I am passionate about inclusion and helping as many children as possible enjoy stories. With the help of PAMIS (Promoting A More Inclusive Society), the book was adapted into a multi-sensory story for those with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities). Through PAMIS, I met Joanna Fraser, an incredibly patient Makaton tutor who taught me the story in Makaton. I don't use Makaton with Leo, so I can't claim to be an expert (or an actor!) but I've done my best and I really hope you enjoy the video!
