I will point out differences between the film and George Bernard Shaw’s original screenplay; A British language professor makes a bet that he can take an illiterate flower girl and transform her into a princess. Pygmalion is a 1938 British film co directed by Leslie Howard and Anthony Asquith and stars Leslie Howard as Professor Henry Higgins, Wendy Hiller as Eliza Doolittle, Wilfrid Lawson as Alfred Doolittle, Scott Sunderland as Colonel George Pickering, Jean Cadell as Mrs. Pearce and David Tree as Freddy Eynsford-Hill. At the 11th Academy Awards, Ian Dalrymple, Cecil Lewis, and W. P. Lipscomb won the award for Best Screenplay. Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller were nominated for best actor and actress respectively for their performances.
