"The Snows Descend" – Judith Bingham | Recorded at St. Matthew's Church, Belfast

In honour of composer Judith Bingham's 70th birthday, the Ulster Orchestra are delighted to present a special recording of The Snows Descend. Recorded last year in St. Matthew's Church, Belfast, this work showcases both Bingham's composition style and brass instruments in a shimmering manner in what is a paraphrase of her choral work, Gleams of a Remoter World. "The piece starts off like a sombre sarabande, and the occasional crescendos and fortes are glimpses of the alpine peaks through mist or snow. Staccato snow storms build up over long expressive lines in the lower instruments. The whole piece seems to hinge harmonically on the note E which is rarely absent from any bar." - Judith Bingham.
