This is East Java, Indonesia! It is the island practically touching Bali, a nature lovers paradise, and where Avatar meets Lord of the Rings. Follow the adventures daily on Instagram @MichaelMakesFilms East Java is an incredible mix of some of the worlds best waterfalls and volcanic landscape even rivalling New Zealand. It’s basically the more affordable version of New Zealand but equally as impressive. You can get here by car from Jakarta, air to Surabaya airport, or by sea from Bali on a 25 minute ferry. If flying from Surabaya I recommend starting near Tumpak Sewu. There is a great homestay near the parking lot. You can use this as a base for a day, two or 3 to make the most of the waterfalls and all the hiking. The must see waterfalls there are Tumpak Sewu, Goa Tetes, Coban Sriti, Kapas Biru and Kabut Pelangi. If you have even more time and enjoy trekking, check out Semeru volcano for a 2 to 3 day climb. You can also stop in Malang before getting here to see the colourful Jodipan Village. From there I recommend Driving up to Probolinggo where you can either use as a rest day, or head back to Mt Bromo. Mt. Bromo can be done in 1-2 days. You can either just do the sunrise viewpoint and move on or ride some dirt bikes around the volcano (an amazing day trip!) There are 3 sunrise viewpoints that I looked into (Seruni Point, King Kong hill, and Puncak B29) After Bromo we went directly to the town of Banyuwangi. We used it as a base for several days to explore Ijen volcano, the cypress tree forest near Genteng town and Baluran National Park for its unique savanna and wildlife. The highlight of my trip was Ijen Volcano, not only for the natural beauty, but meeting the sulphur miners. Their story is incredible.Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!A special thank you to @Vander_Armando for providing the Mt Bromo drone shot! :)Check him out on IG, he’s an amazing photographer!
