We’re very fortunate to have so many amazing musicians in Mayo and we’re delighted to be working with four of our finest traditional musicians on this project, curated by Emer Mayock, which celebrates traditional music from and associated with County Mayo. We have David Munnelly (Accordion and Melodeon), Gráinne Hambly (Harp) Emer Mayock (Uilleann pipes and Flute), and Peter Molloy (Flute). The theme of the performances is the music of Mayo represented by these musicians through musical style, compositions and repertoire. The music will range from tunes collected in Mayo in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and tunes that are associated with Mayo musicians who emigrated to America in the 19th and 20th centuries. The music presented features the tunes that have survived through generations of Mayo people up to the present day. You will hear more recent compositions by Mayo musicians and there will be a strong thread of Mayo place names in the tune titles throughout. Content (Episode 3) David Munnelly (accordion): Micín Healy’s, Manus Keane’s Gráinne Hambly (harp): Oileán Éadaigh, Cloonraine, My Mind Will Never be Easy Peter Molloy (flute): Lord Mayo, Castlebar Races, Josie’s Visit Emer Mayock (flute): The Blackbird and the Thrush, Is it the Priest You Want David Munnelly (accordion) and guest Teresa Clarke (fiddle): The March of the Kilkenny’s Gráinne Hambly (concertina): The Frieze Britches Peter Molloy (flute): Paddy Mills’, Johnny Watt Henry’s, The Pride of Cloontia Emer Mayock (uilleann pipes): An Gabhrán, The Dandy Reel These performances form part of the Linenhall Arts Centre’s online arts offerings during the period of the Covid-19 public health emergency.
