This is a case of Diagnostic Flexible Ureterorenoscopy - sometimes also called Flexi URS or FURS. The patient had previously undergone LEFT Nephroureterectomy (operation to remove LEFT kidney and ureter because of Transitional Cell Cancer (TCC) of the ureter. This was a diagnostic procedure to examine the RIGHT ureter and kidney. The result was negative, the patient was delighted with this outcome, and will be followed up in the future to make sure all remains well in terms of recurrence of disease. Flexi URS can be performed as a 1-daycase procedure under a short general anaesthetic. It can take approximately 30-45 minutes. In this case, as always, a safety wire was introduced prior to actual safe surgical procedure, and due to the fact he had a solitary kidney, decision was made to insert a JJ stent for 2 weeks to avoid any complications. The surgical and radiological anatomy of the kidney is demonstrated. The case was performed by Mr Shergill, BSc(Hons) MRCS(Eng), FRCS(Urol), FEBU. He is Consultant Urological Surgeon in Wrexham, North Wales, and specialises in minimally invasive urological surgery. www.shergillurology.com
