Peoples Voice The Forum That Lets YOU Speak! Kashmiri Migrants registered outside J&K face step motherly treatment Nothing has changed for us after revocation of Article 370: Kashmiri Migrants settled outside J&K By King C Bharati Jammu, September 02, 2020: The Kashmiri Pandit Migrants who are settled outside Jammu and Kashmir allege gross discrimination and step motherly treatment as they are not considered at par with the Kashmiri Migrants registered with Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Jammu and Kashmir even as they have to approach the same authority for their Domicile certificates and earlier for PRCs. A big chunk of Kashmiri migrants who live in Delhi and are registered with Delhi government as well as those registered similarly with other state governments of India face a peculiar problem of identity crisis as those who migrated in 1990s have a ration card but their children are not added in their ration cards and hence neither get relief nor any benefits leaving them high and dry. These migrants have been approaching the authorities time and again but no one pays any heed to them, allege these migrants adding now for the new Domicile certificates they have to approach the Relief and Rehabilitation commissioner again but are not allowed to receive any relief benefits if they want to return to Jammu or Kashmir. They also alleged that their properties which were burnt in Kashmir in 1992 for which 50% compensation was promised has not been paid as the government at that time fixed a cap of Rs one 2 lakh for any property from which Rs one lakh was to be paid after completion of formalities and another one lakh after they return to Kashmir, which however has remained only a dream for the Kashmiri Pandit community till date. These migrants were hopeful that things would change after abrogation of the provisions of article 370 in J&K but are shocked to learn that nothing has changed for them,. One such migrant who has been running from pillar to post in Delhi and Jammu, approached The Right News -TRN to highlight the plight of those migrants who are not registered with Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner J&K. Bharat Bhushan Bhat lives in Delhi and is a registered migrant with Delhi government and has been deprived of the benefits that are provided to migrants in J&K. Ironically his own brother who also migrated with him but stayed in Jammu gets all the benefits that are given to migrants thus creating a wedge between two sections of migrants within the Kashmiri Pandit community one that lives in J&K and one that lives outside. While everybody used complain of a strong bias in the bureaucracy in J&K towards Kashmiri Pandits but even after full integration of J&K with India things have not changed a bit for the Kashmiri Pandits. While Government of India pushes for one nation one ration card, the same rule is not applied when it comes to Kashmir Pandits.
