Project: Ivory Towers Typology: Apartment Interiors Location: Mangaluru, Karnataka Design Firm: Guulshan Roy Architects, Mangaluru This 3,500 sq. ft. duplex apartment presents a unique portfolio of carefully crafted and beautifully styled décor, done by Architect Guulshan Roy. Set in the upmarket residential area of Attavar, Mangalore; Ivory Towers stands as a high-rise residential landmark. To accentuate the harmony between the classic and modern style, the designer has come up with state-of-art interiors for this residence, where all sophistications are met. The design derives inspiration from geometry; thus, powerful geometric patterns have been used in furnishings and finishes to make a statement. In the design world, three is a magic number, and hence, the chest at the entrance perfectly displays three ornament details to mark the entrance. The walls cured with Royale Play International Designer Collection are great at breaking things up a bit. In an almost rectilinear space, the ionic wall finish separates the living area from the vestibule. A very Italian, rough effect is reaped by Royale Play Archi Concrete. The finish vividly accentuates the space into an expression of high design. Taken literally, the living room acts as a vignette, arranged to draw the eye. The walls are done with the Royal Play Teodorico paint. This plaster adeptly creates classic environments, rich with prestige, class and an understated elegance all of its own. The finish permits to achieve uniform and semi-polished finishing coats, creating soft and vibrant shades. There are lots of strong elements vying for attention here – geometric pattern on the wall, dramatic display of art, and two pieces covered in grey leather– all of which balance each other well. Since it is a formal space, a simple scheme of grey tones is accented with statement furniture that blends with the décor. The living room is brightly – lit both during the day and night. Here, a squarish geometric pattern flows from the floor to the wall. The powerful artworks on the wall are a nice contrast to the surrounding elements and keeps things from being too square. The pendant lights cast a flattering, urbane glow, crucial to creating the right atmosphere. With more rust in it, the decorative Royal Play Ironic and Verdigris finish portray the drama and poetry of rust in the master bedroom. It converts mere walls into epic expressions of urban beauty, possessing the many-hued imperfections and tantalising effects of rust. The rear wall models a delineation in black and white to keep it upbeat. The Daughter’s Room has a subtle pink palette. Fabric covered panels and opalescent wallpaper with geometric pattern covers the wall. The designer has experimented with patinated washing in 2 hues in Son’s room to highlight the main wall. The white walls in the family room provide a strong visual anchor for whatever has been arrange in front of it. Modern aesthetics owe much to the finer, richer expressions of the golden eras gone by. Royale Play Tuscania Antica captures the very essence of art and design. This fine plaster brings alive the classic appeal of the vintage era on every wall. The sofas in green and grey are bold and quirky, and could have been visually overwhelming. However, the cohesive colour scheme and careful placement has created a restful and appealing whole. The modern art on the wall is the perfect backdrop for a cosy corner like this one.
