You do not need to spend a ton of time writing, but if you sprinkle in your writing as you work it will make you more productive. Simply logging what you did in a TODO and DONE format will help you remember what you did, so you can discuss it at standups, or re-read it if you step away from a project for a while. Writing mini-blog posts will help you remember things, which is one of the reasons I have a blog and make videos. Teaching reinforces learning and helps establish you as a developer. The added benefit is that you can improve your developer productivity by writing.
