As of March 2021, we’ve invested more than $8bn on researching and developing smoke-free products that – whilst not risk-free – are a much better choice for adults who would otherwise continue to smoke cigarettes. We know we have a long road ahead of us to earn the trust and active cooperation needed to achieve this world-changing vision, and we’re working closely with scientists, governments and public health experts to make our vision a reality. HOW ARE WE TRANSFORMING OUR BUSINESS? We are working towards replacing cigarettes with better smoke-free alternatives that are scientifically proven to reduce harm compared to cigarettes. WHAT ARE SMOKE-FREE ALTERNATIVES? Vapes, e-cigarettes and heat not burn tobacco products are all examples of smoke-free alternatives. They are non-combustible products and produce either vapour or aerosol rather than smoke. WHY IS PMI WORKING TOWARDS A SMOKE-FREE FUTURE? It’s the right thing to do. There are an estimated one billion-plus smokers in the world, and they should be encouraged to quit.
