Another video brought to you by texasoakwilt.org discusses how to obtain samples from your trees to confirm the presence of oak wilt. ➡️ When it comes to combating oak wilt, diagnosis is the first step to take. That involves taking a sample and having it tested at a laboratory. It is recommended that you take samples from two or three locations on the tree to increase the likelihood of obtaining diseased tissue. This video will teach you more about the two different ways you can get samples and how to prepare them. Ready to send your sample to the lab? Make sure to watch the whole video to ensure you’re taking samples during the appropriate time of year and packaging them correctly. ➡️ It may be surprising to learn that heat can kill the oak wilt fungus. So, you’ll want to avoid collecting your samples during the year’s hottest months. Ideally between September and June are the best times. Once your samples have been collected, package them safely and keep them cool! If a sample isn’t kept cool, its container will heat up and potentially kill the virus before it even gets to the lab. 💬 Let us know in the comments if you’ve taken samples of your trees for testing before.
