#CHARGER #AP8022 #SMPS AP8022 is an SMPS IC (SWITCH MODE POWER SUPPLY), used to make mobile charger consisting of a PWM generator and a power MOSFET. Here we will show how to build a mobile charger at home and what are its parts. SMPS stands for switch mode power supply. In earlier days in linear power supply, a transformer was used to step down voltage from 220 to 5 volt AC. This power supply and the transformer were bulky and lossy. What happens in the SMPS circuit is that it takes 220volt AC input converts it to 220 DC through a bridge rectifier and RC filter. SMPS is powered by the auxiliary winding of the transformer. Now the SMPS circuit consists of IC AP8022. AP8022 contains a PWM(pulse width modulator) and a MOSFET. Using the MOSFET it turns on and off the power supply through the primary winding of the transformer 60,000 times a second. Now as the switching frequency increases, the size of the transformer decreases efficiency also increases but all parameters within a limit. now bad side of the SMPS is that it produces a huge amount of noises.
