I am still not sure if the poles of light I saw in Rovaniemi, are considered a type of aurora... but they were spectacular! Here in Ivalo, I have seen some green lights (the usual auroras) but they are extremely hard to capture on camera, basically impossible to film. I'll do my best for the next videos :). But my thesis-writing adventure has only begun. This first week I have used mostly for organizing my schedule and settling in - including lots of sleep! Also, I found it quite funny, how my neighbor a masters graduate was teaching me to make a fire on the first day - and how all our studies are quite useless if we don't know how to make a fire here. It's a matter of survival! If basic needs are not met it is hard to meet the next level of needs. Fire is a good metaphor for what brings so much struggle in people's lives with the lack of money and emotional safety. So much to cover before we can talk about intelectual and spiritual growth. As I dive into the thesis content, I feel like the stories of my research participants are becoming alive and their words together with complex emotions express meanings that carry a message they hope to deliver through me. December is a great month, for the task of delivering messages and meaning.
