Albert Sandler and his Orchestra -- January 1935 Sandler Serenades -- Part 1 Frasquita Serenade; Serenade (Schubert); First Serenade -- Standchen (Heykens) Sandler Serenades -- Part 2 Second Serenade (Heykens); Serenade (Toselli); Serenade During the 1930s, light music was a popular alternative to the insistent rhythms of the great British Dance Bands. The top hotels, notably in London, employed a light orchestra in addition to their resident dance band. One of the most famous combinations in the light music genre was led by violinist Albert Sandler; one of the great radio stars of that era. At the time this record was made by Columbia at the beginning of 1935, Sandler appears to have been still resident at the Park Lane Hotel in London. Sandler's playing is quite exquisite and I have been careful not to eliminate all the surface noise on the record so that his beautiful tone can be heard as clearly as possible without any undue distortion.
